The inspiration for my Senior project came to me when trying to figure out my major for my upcoming year at college. I wanted to work in urban studies and I found this opportunity to be a great one to spend in a city where I will hopefully be eventually taking part in college at. Working in LA which is such an urban area and have any opportunity to work with such an amazing company was amazing. My initial goals and the situation ended up being a little bit different then my takeaways. The quality of my mentorship was amazing and I love engagement what happened on meetings. I think I’ve learned a lot about what I can do to make the world a better place I think one thing I would say but my project is I wish it had a little bit more structure but overall I think it was a very beneficial experience. I think Hawken can be more involved with organizations in general ones that are truly focusing on the greater good of our community. I think we should go beyond helping organizations that focus...

Continuing with my last story there of been a lot of characters on these meetings there’s a man whose name is Billy goat who talks and dresses like a goat and asks for more green space. You may ask why is this important to my Hochman project and why is this important to my focus on homelessness. I just wanted to outline the distractions as well as the interesting array of people that can attend these meetings as well as comment at these meetings. The board itself is made up of a small group of people who focus on going through grants as well as proposals for residential housing as well as changes to the community. I have grown so much over the past week.   The final week as an opportunity to reflect and put into place the many things that I have learned so far. I have been so lucky and grateful to have this opportunity working with such influential people at a time of need. This project is not only opened my eyes to so many differences and any qualities that people face in...

We presented many different challenges and experiences than we want originally did. I started to look back and see what I could’ve done differently and then the situation and I have improved not only my lingo but my allocating of fun skills. I think Hawken school could really get involved with these organizations whether or not they’re in Cleveland Ohio River this beach California as they are shaping our communities in hopes for the better especially being a nonprofit there are no far as economic gains. I wanna hopefully bring attention to this matter and I had since my work with the Geller fund. During my meetings in the Geller fund we learned how to allocate funds and put them to charitable organizations that would benefit from the money. But I have realize there is so many greater organizations that we could really be looking into ones that not only can provide a scholarship to someone to go to school but could provide housing for a family of three who is living on the street. ...

I was extremely excited to finally have the opportunity to dive into my senior project. I didn’t know what was to come but I was excited nevertheless. My first day went like any other first day trying to get the reins of everything and understand what’s truly happening. I went on a meeting which center around a Venice Beach community Council. During that meeting I took notes as well as made judgments and assumptions based on the facts presented. These meetings really open my mind in my eyes into the world of allocating resources and making decisions based on community benefit. During the meeting I heard from many different influential people that work to house and allocate homelessness in the city of Venice. I’m currently working with my mentor on just getting a better understanding on a different facet of the world. My initial expectations were met and I was extremely excited and I felt immediate benefit from my experience. Going to the next week I’m just extremely excited to ge...

I wanted to have a senior project that could genuinely further my education. I’ve always been involved with the advocacy for homelessness as well as political movements but never on the scale. I’m extremely excited to work with this organization and sit in on these city Council meetings to see what is truly happening. A lot of people don’t necessarily get the opportunity to hear these as well as to learn from such influential people. I am hoping that I am challenged as well as having different experiences that brought in my view.
